Adiós al limbo

Después de cientos de años resulta que el Limbo de los niños no existía, según decidió ayer una comisión del Vaticano. No me resisto a reproducir algunos fragmentos de la noticia: "Our conclusion is that the many factors that we have considered ... give serious theological and liturgical grounds for hope that unbaptized infants who die will be saved and enjoy the beatific vision," the document said. Menos mal, ¿eh?... ¿o no?: "We emphasize that these are reasons for prayerful hope, rather than grounds for sure knowledge," it added. ¡Qué pena! No están seguros. Y para eso han necesitado varios años. Si seguimos leyendo encontramos lo siguiente: "The commission's document said salvation for unbaptized babies who die was becoming an urgent pastoral question, in part because their number is greatly increasing. Many infants today are born to parents who are not practicing Catholics, and many others are the unborn victims of abortion, it said." Qué amable por su parte, se preocupan de los niños de padres no católicos y de los pobres abortos. ¿Y cómo ha evolucionado a lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia este tema?, seguimos leyendo: "In the fifth century, St. Augustine concluded that infants who die without baptism were consigned to hell." No me lo puedo creer. Niños inocentes condenados al sufrimiento eterno. "By the 13th century, theologians referred to the "limbo of infants" as a place where unbaptized babies were deprived of the vision of God, but did not suffer because they did not know what they were deprived of." Claro, ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente. Lo mejor, la frase que encontramos casi al final de la noticia: "It must be clearly acknowledged that the church does not have sure knowledge about the salvation of unbaptized infants who die," it said." Acabáramos. Ellos mismos admiten que no tienen la más remota idea de lo que les ocurre a los niños muertos sin bautizar. ¿No recuerda ésto ligeramante al agnosticismo? ¿Serán católicos agnósticos?
